It is time for to ‘let N’Golo Kante go’, according to former Blues left-back Scott Minto.

Kante’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season and recent reports suggest that the defensive midfielder is prepared to leave Chelsea on a free transfer.

Both player and club are more than willing to agree a new deal but have hit a sticking point in the negotiations surrounding the length of his contract extension.

Chelsea have offered the 31-year-old a two-year deal on account of his persistent injury problems that have plagued the French  winner over the last three seasons.

However, Kante has turned down that proposal as he wants a four-year contract, similar to that of summer signing Kalidou Koulibaly.

Amid all of this, PSG have renewed their interest in the player and are able to sign Kante on a pre-contract agreement on January 1 if he does not agree new terms with Chelsea.

Quizzed about what Chelsea should do about Kante, Minto told : ‘He’s 31, he’s a superb player and when he’s fit I still don’t think there’s anyone better.

‘You go back to that Tottenham game where Chelsea outplayed Spurs and Spurs nicked it, he was absolutely superb.

‘But one, he’s not always fit, and two, when you’re the wrong side of 30, I don’t think you can ask for four-year contracts. You simply can’t, you get a two-year at best.

‘So if he’s demanding that and it’s that or nothing, then I think Chelsea have to let him go.’
