France kicked-off their defence with a superb 4-1 comeback win against Australia at the Al Janoub Stadium in .

Australia took a shock lead after just nine minutes courtesy of Craig Goodwin, but Didier Deschamps’ side then took control of the game, with Adrien Rabiot heading in the equaliser.

Just five minutes after that, Olivier Giroud tapped home to give France the lead though they spurned chances to extend their advantage before the break.

In the second-half, talisman Kylian Mbappe finally gave Les Bleus breathing space before Giroud scored their fourth just after to become France’s joint all-time leading goal scorer alongside the legendary Thierry Henry.

Australia’s performance was gutsy but ultimately no match for the quality of the 2018 champions who move to the top of Group D after Denmark and Tunisia’s goalless draw earlier on Tuesday.
